Current Spanish La Liga leaders Barcelona are now reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso.

This comes after Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is reported to have told the Catalan giants to sign the 27-year-old Spaniard following his impressive performances at Chelsea.

Lionel Messi according to the report by Don Balon feels Marcos Alonso is the type of player that will be of great help to Barcelona next season.

He wants the former Bolton Wanderers to provide serious competition for current number one left back at Barcelona Jordi Alba.

Messi is also said to have handed Barcelona chiefs a three-man shortlist with Alonso, Bayern Munich’s David Alaba and Valencia ace Gaya all being watched.

But is is not yet clear if Chelsea will want to sell Marcos Alonso who has been impressive for the Blues this season scoring six goals in all competitions.

Marcos Alonso is expected to play for Chelsea tonight as the Blues will face Watford in a tough Premier League match.

Chelsea who are the reigning Premier League champions currently occupy fourth position on the standings with with 50 points from 25 games.
